Hetzner 2026 price changes: keep, rescale or move?
Answer: Hetzner raised cloud prices twice in 2026: on Apr 1, 2026 for every server (EU CPX22 €5.99 → €7.99/mo excl. VAT and IPv4) and on Jun 15, 2026 for new orders and any rescale only (CPX22 €19.49, 2.4× the pre-June price; US CPX11 €5.99 → €17.49). So keep a pre-June server untouched, because even scaling it down switches it to the new list (CPX32 → CPX22 costs €5.50/mo more), and if you need a different size, move: as of 2026-10-31, OVHcloud VPS-1 costs $5.35/mo all-in vs $26.84 for a new Hetzner CPX22 (EU) (2 TB egress, backups on).

What a rescale costs
Hetzner's billing FAQ: these actions move a pre-June server to current prices: “Rescaling (regardless of whether the server is scaled up or down)”, “Restoring a deleted server”, “Transferring a server to another project with a different currency”. These don't: “Rebuilding a server”, “Transferring a server to another project with the same currency” (source · checked 2026-10-31).

Keep or move: Hetzner vs 5 cheaper alternatives by true cost
All-in = list price + IPv4 + backups + overage at 2 TB/month, from the VPSLedger ledger (orderable, verified plans; same engine as the TCO calculator). Monthly plans: 12/24/36-month totals are that monthly cost × months (no intro discount counted, so these are the renewal prices). The prepay row uses the Black Friday guide's renewal rule: first term up front, then each renewal billed for its term.

Do I have to migrate?
No. Hetzner: “Existing server contracts will keep their terms and conditions and remain active.” A server ordered before Jun 15, 2026 keeps its price (EU CPX22 €8.49/mo incl. IPv4) until you rescale it, restore it after deleting it, or move it to a project in another currency. Rebuilding it or moving it to a same-currency project does not change the price.
Is Hetzner still the cheapest?
Not for new servers. For 2 vCPU / 4 GB at 2 TB egress with backups, a new CPX22 (EU) is $26.84/mo all-in and ranks #8 of 12 orderable plans we track; the cheapest is OVHcloud VPS-1 at $5.35. A pre-June CPX22 you keep is $11.40/mo on the same basis; 2 orderable plans are cheaper even than that (OVHcloud VPS-1 $5.35, OVHcloud VPS-2 $10.00), so weigh the saving against the work of migrating.
Can I scale down to save money?
No. Hetzner's billing FAQ lists “Rescaling (regardless of whether the server is scaled up or down)” as an action that moves a server to current pricing. Scaling a pre-June CPX32 (€14.49) down to CPX22 bills €19.99/mo, €5.50 more each month.

A new US CPX21 (3 vCPU / 4 GB) is $43.62/mo all-in at 2 TB; AWS Lightsail 4 GB is $24.00 and OVHcloud VPS-1 $5.35 on the same basis. US Hetzner plans include 1–2 TB of traffic, not 20 TB.
Is it better or worse than OVH right now?
For a new 2 vCPU / 4 GB server, yes, OVHcloud VPS-1 is cheaper: $5.35/mo vs $26.84 for Hetzner CPX22 (EU) (2 TB, backups on). A grandfathered CPX22 ($11.40) is still $6.05/mo more than OVH VPS-1, a $217.74 gap over 36 months.
What about netcup, Leaseweb or Contabo?
