VPSLedgerVPS cost of ownershipWeekly ledger
Methodology

How the ledger is kept.

  1. Prices come only from the provider’s own pricing page or official public API (Vultr, Linode, Azure Retail Prices). Each row stores the source URL and check date.
  2. A row is verified when price and specs were read on that date; otherwise unverified, with unknowns left blank. We never estimate a price.
  3. True monthly cost = list (or renewal) price + IPv4 + backups (optional) + max(0, egress − included transfer) × overage rate. Unpublished fees count as $0 and are flagged.
  4. EUR prices convert at 1.1188 USD/EUR, the ECB reference rate for 2026-10-26 (source). Prices exclude VAT/sales tax.
  5. Hourly-billed clouds use 730 hours/month.
  6. Savings figures. Computed at build time from verified rows only, at 2 TB/month egress with backups on. “Equivalent” plans have 1–2× the target vCPU and RAM. Yearly gap = (priciest − cheapest true monthly cost) × 12. Hidden fees = true cost − list price at 1 TB. Renewal jump = renewal − intro price. Unverified fees (e.g. an overage rate we could not read on the provider’s page) count as $0 in these claims, so gaps are conservative. Plans whose egress price is not in the ledger are excluded when egress exceeds their allowance. Raw figures: /api/stats.json.
  7. A weekly script diffs every source page; confirmed changes enter the price log.
